Public hearing and MOU signing on ‘10-Year Strategic Plan to Support Aging Society in Phitsanulok’

Students of Naresuan University College of Health Systems management (NUCHSM), attended a day-long public hearing on ’10-year strategic plan for Phitsanulok Municipality to support the aging society’ at Topland Hotel on the 15th of September 2017. The public and the relevant stakeholders were gathered to discuss the project strategies and activities for the 10-year strategic plan in strengthening the aging society towards a sustainable well-being of the aging society in Phitsanulok Municipality.

The project aims to improve the quality of lives of the aging society. The project covers four major strategies; healthcare services, social support, aging-friendly infrastructure development and improving the economic status of the aging people. The project is being backed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The strategies were deliberated through focus group discussion, and then feedback and suggestions were sought for a final common consensus which was a bottom-up planning approach.

The College of Health Systems Management along with Faculties of Social Science, Architecture and Science provides the technical support for this project.

Finally, two memoranda of understanding (MoU) were signed. Phitsanulok Municipality Mayor and JICA representative, the Managing Director of ALMEC Corporation signed the first MoU. The second MoU is a collaboration among seven different sectors: Phitsanulok Municipality, ALMEC Corporation, Naresuan University, represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wittayan Sila, Vice President, acting as the President of the Office of Public Works and Town Planning, Phitsanulok office of Social Development and Human Security, Phitsanulok Chamber of Commerce and the Office of the Public Policy Development Support for the aging society. They signed the second MoU to execute the ’10-year strategic plan for Phitsanulok Municipality to support the aging society.’ The project is anticipated to be a model for the rest of the districts and municipalities in Thailand.
