CHSM Ph.D. Student successfully defends dissertation proposal

The College of Health Systems Management (CHSM) Ph.D. student, Mr. Proloy Barua, has successfully defended his Dissertation Proposal with the title “Investigation of health disparity among migrant children in Thailand” to a 5-member Exam Committee on 22 November 2018, held at Room 217, Ekathosarot Building, Naresuan University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wareerat Kaewurai, Naresuan University Vice President for Academic Affairs and Acting Director of CHSM welcomed the Examination Committee and thanked them for accepting the invitation of CHSM. She also gave some words of encouragement to Mr. Barua and wished him good luck.

Mr. Proloy Barua is a Bangladesh national studying Doctor of Philosophy in Health Systems Management at the College of Health Systems Management, Naresuan University and is under a scholarship provided by the University.

The 5-member Examination Committee that scrutinizes Mr. Barua during the oral presentation and also evaluated his Dissertation is Chaired by Prof. Dr. David Briggs, Adjunct Professor of the University of New England, Australia.

Other members of the committee were Assoc. Prof. Nathorn Chaiyakunapruk, from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Naresuan University; Asst. Prof. Dr. Phudit Tejativaddhana, former Acting Director at the College of Health Systems Management, Naresuan University, Dr. Prakasit Kayasit, Deputy Director, of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth); and Dr. Rapeepong Suphanchaimat, an expert on the health policy of migrants and stateless persons from the International Health Policy Programme of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH);

The Committee rigorously analyzed the feasibility and practicability of the study considering Mr. Barua’s limitations and the duration of time he has left to complete his Ph.D. program. After more than 3 hours of thorough discussion and after looking at all the possible loopholes and ambiguities of the study, the Committee has come up with a decision. The Committee tasked Assoc. Prof. Nathorn Chaiyakunapruk, who is also Mr. Barua’s Major Advisor, to relay the decision and the recommendation of the Committee to Mr. Barua’s Dissertaion Proposal. The Committee’s final decision was ‘Pass with the condition to make minor revisions to address the Committee’s recommendations.
